Double wall

The double wall is preferrably used in connection with the floor slabs to facilitate monolithic constructions and is characterised by its low weight compared to a massive wall.

The double wall is used in the residential and industrial construction industry. It is preferrably used in connection with the floor slabs to facilitate monolithic constructions and is characterised by its low weight compared to a massive wall. This enables a crane with lower load capacity to install the precast parts on the construction site. Additionally, the transport costs to the construction site are correspondingly less than for traditional concrete elements. With lower costs, shorter superstructure construction time and maximum quality, the double wall is a convincing argument.

It consists of a loosely reinforced first and second outer formwork, which are connected to each other through truss reinforcement. The trusses consist of welded steel reinforcement. The upper belt beam, two concreted lower belt beams and the diagonals between the upper belt and lower belts.

A major advantage of the double wall system is that both outer sides of the element are of a high finished quality, they can be wallpapered or painted without any further preperation work. Plastwork is not required, however, the joints between the individual elements must be filled. Normally, the thickness of each finished internal, or external, wall element is about 50 - 60 mm. Site elements such as doors, windows, electrical outlets, services, openings, etc. can be installed in the double wall unit at the precasting plant. Also in the factory, an insulation, either outside on the outer formwork or between the two inner and outer layers, can be added.

The double walls are ercted on the construction site on the foundation slab or the intermediate floor slabs and held in place by adjustable struts. After laying the ceiling slabs, the void in the double walls will be filled with site concrete, thus, a monolithic building exists, which is resitant against water penetration and other weather influences.

Facts

  • Concrete board: normally 50 – 60 mm thick.

  • Length: up to 14 m.

  • Wall height: Can reach through the complete building front with a vertical installation of the precast concrete parts. Depending on the ceilingl height in the residential construction, normally up to 3 m . For the industrial construction the wall heights of up to 3,5 – 4 m are enough.

  • The dimensions depend on the transport restrictions for the construction site and crane capacities on site.
